Description

Explore Reykjavík’s Quaint Old City Centre with a Local Guide

The tour begins promptly at Hallgrmskirkja church, a Reykjavik icon, where you will find your guide outdoors beside the statue of Leifur Eirksson. 5-10 minutes before the start of the tour, guests are requested to check in with the guide. Because the tour does not go up the bell tower, we urge that early comer take the elevator before the trip begins.

We will begin our trip at the beautiful Hallgrímskirkja Church at the top of the downtown hill. This is the most popular landmark in the city, and for good reason.

Afterwards, we visit the beautiful sculpture park of Einar Jónsson and learn about Norse mythology before strolling through the quaint streets of Þingholt neighbourhood towards the City Pond and Arnarhóll.

Before having a seat in a charming local restaurant, we walk past the Parliament building, Dómkirkjan cathedral, Lake Tjörnin, and the city Hall. Guests are served exquisite Icelandic lamb soup, which is included in the ticket. The tour comes to a close with a lunch with the guide and a friendly personal conversation.

The trek is expected to take 2 hours and 15 minutes, and it is all downhill and easy to walk, as well as wheelchair accessible. Those with limited time will be able to acquire the soup or other options faster, and the trip is open to those with food requirements and vegans as well. If this is the case, please inform the guide at the start of the tour so that we can notify the restaurant ahead of time.

Throughout the trip, the guide will tell you about Iceland’s history and the development of Reykjavik as a city. We’ll also tell you about various local food, folklore, politics, and economic stories. The tour is conducted in small groups, allowing everyone sufficient opportunity to ask any questions they may have! Our tour guides are full-time city guides with extensive expertise and historical knowledge.
