[title] => 4 Day Blue Ice Cave, South Coast, Golden Circle, Snæfellsnes and Northern Lights
    [description] =>

Join us on an unforgettable four-day excursion along the Icelandic south coast to the breathtaking glacier lagoon, Jökulsárlón, where seals are swimming between the icebergs and the white of the ice mixes up with the blue of the sky. Your eyes will also meet with powerful waterfalls, volcanic sand beaches and the biggest glacier in Europe, Vatnajökull, where you will have the chance to explore while hiking.

DAY 1 - Snæfellsnes Peninsula Hopping through the magnificent and picturesque sites, you’ll see steep glacial-carved mountains, endless black beaches, moss topped lava fields, the amazing Kirkjufell Mountain (Arrowhead Mountain) volcanic craters, sci-fi-esque coastal cliffs topped off by the volcanic glacier Snæfellsjökull where Jules Verne set the beginning of the Journey to the Center of the Earth.

DAY 2 The Golden Circle an unforgettable expedition with a small group on the ultimate Golden Circle tour. You will visit the famous Thingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir and the surrounding geothermal area. The day also includes a visit to Kerið volcanic crater, and a stop at a traditional Icelandic farm to see and pet some horses and get a taste of home made Icelandic ice cream.

DAY 3 Seljalandsfoss The first stop is at Seljalandsfoss waterfall where you can walk behind the tumbling water flow and feel the vibrations of the water hitting the ground. Thirsty? Just open your mouth. Right next to it is the waterfall Gljúfrabúi which snugly tucked in a gorge hidden from most. Gljúfrabúi actually means Canyon Dweller in English. To reach the waterfall, you must first test your balance by bouncing on rocks lying in the river bed. A failure means instant foot wetness and a good laugh by your co-travellers. Skógafoss Prepare to meet the pearl of the South Coast, Skógafoss waterfall. Majestically tucked in a wide gorge, the waterfall tumbles down 60 metres from up above a cliff into a small river, producing a cloud of mist and spray that rainbows like to dance in during sunshine. Try to warm up for the glacier by running up the 527 steps to the top... Your guide will be timing you! Reynisfjara - Black Sand Beach Heading further east, we visit the black sand beach of Reynisfjara where the Atlantic coastline presents massive waves hitting the unique basalt columns in the cliffs above the sand. Rock pillars in the water and the cliffs of Dýrhólaey are seen in the distance. This area of the south is also a paradise for bird lovers, as Puffins and dozens of other unique species nest on top of these cliffs in the summertime from June to August.

DAY 4 Jökulsárlón - The Glacier Lagoon Heading off day nr. 2 is Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, a 200m deep glacial lake fed by Breiðamerkurjökull, an outlet glacier of Europe’s largest glacier. Fed enormous icebergs all year round the lagoon is usually filled with ice that floats south. Tröll Expeditions will give you the opportunity to book a boat ride between the icebergs during summer time and get a closer look of the millenary ice. If boating is not your thing, then we walk alongside the glacier lagoon enjoying the magnificent views and dead silence of Icelandic nature. Diamond Beach On the other side of the road the icebergs from Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon float into the Atlantic Ocean where they are quickly thrown back to shore by the tide and winds. This black sand beach is full of smaller ice rocks in all shapes and sizes, sparkling like diamonds in the daylight. The ice itself comes in all shades of white and blue forming beautiful contrasts, guaranteed to make your Instagram account pop! Glacier Hike & Blue Ice Cave To complete our perfect adventure we will hike an outlet glacier spawning from the one of the largest glaciers in the country. After meeting our highly trained glacier guides and strapping on our safety and glacier equipment, including helmets, harnesses, crampons and ice axes we hike on the ice for an hour and a half. A spectacular experience and opportunity to learn more about this breathtaking and increasingly rare natural phenomena. What are you waiting for? Come and join us to check all the fun stuff we can do in the southern region, including glacier hiking! This is the ultimate Icelandic experience with a small group and experienced guide guaranteed. Start your adventure now by booking a date.

Get on to the comfy minibus with trained and friendly guide and a group of small people on 3 day tour with us to discover and explore the most popular places in the South Coasts and the famous Golden circle route.

In this 3 day trip, you will be able to witness the geothermal area and Geysir, Gullfoss waterfall, Thingvellir National Park in the Golden Circle. You will also get chance to go with our local favorite to visit the Kerið crater and to see the traditional diary farm where you will get ice cream totally free.

On other 2 days, we will take you to the popular South coast. Along the coast of you will be able to see the popular Reynisfjara, the black sand beach, the Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon in Vatnajökull National Park. In the park you will get the chance to discover the largest glacier of Europe and move into the blue ice cave in it. Even you can see the Northern lights if nature allows.

On day 4 we will take you to the majestic Western Iceland. There you will be able to explore the secret gem of the western Iceland, the peninsula of Snæfellsnes also called as “Iceland in a nutshell” as it is really wonderful and picturesque site; the endless black beach, the glacial carved mountains, volcanic craters, moss topped lava fields, coastal cliffs covered by volcanic glacier Snæfellsjökull and the Center of the Earth.

Day 1

We will pick you up from your residential apartment and move out to the countryside to visit the most popular route of Iceland – The Golden Circle. You will be able to experience all the wonderful things on the famous route which includes waterfalls, geothermal areas and our loveable locals.

Thingvellir National Park

At first we will explore the spot where you will see two tectonic plates, the Eurasian plate and the North American plates and they are continuously moving apart from each other. There are some of the places across the world that provides much better and clear view of such huge geographic phenomenon. In Thingvellir National Park you will also find the greatest natural lake in whole Iceland. There is a huge diversity of bird and fish in the park. In the history of Iceland the Thingvellir has great importance. Back in 930 AD, Icelanders established their parliament at Thingvellir. The meaning of Thingvellir is “Parliament plains”.

Gullfoss Waterfall

The “Golden Falls” – formed by the melting of the second largest glacier of Iceland i.e. Langjökull and falling of water to the intense canyons. If the weather is sunny on the particular day, you would be able to witness the Langjökull glacier from a distance and also see a beautiful rainbow in the water droplets coming off the waterfall.

Geysir Geothermal Area

This area has over hundreds of colorful and exciting hot springs that erupts and two geysers. One of those geysers is known as “Geysir” and gave name to all of the geysers throughout the world. Well, it erupts very less frequently these days. The second one geyser is known as “Strokkur” and used to erupt up to the height of 40 meters after every 5 minutes.

Faxi Waterfall

This waterfall has small size as compared to other waterfalls in Iceland but it is equally gorgeous and spectacular. It is located in the river Tungufljót – a river popular for salmon. A salmon staircase is built along the sides of the river to increase the area of the river for salmon. In summer days, the fishermen try to find the salmon at the waterfall and the salmon are seen hopping up to the staircase.

Traditional Dairy Farm and Free Ice Cream

We explore the Efstidalur farm whose owner is the same family since the year 1850. The family run business of this particular family in Iceland is basically related to traditional farming in Iceland and they emphasize on cattle and cow breeding. On our visit to the farm, you can taste the delicious and yummy farm to table dairy products. You will also be able to see outstanding mountain views and also pet the animals. Tröll Expeditions will offer you to check and taste the ice cream yourself while watching the animals comforting in the stable.

Kerið Volcanic Crater

The eruption happened 3,000 yeas ago results in the formation of an amazing volcanic crater having a lake in the center. Some people consider it as a product of huge explosion. The most believable assumption is that the volcanic crater is formed due to the distortion of volcanic cone into magma chamber when the eruption stopped. Kerið is the best place to get information related to geological background of Iceland and explore the astonishing natural wonder.
When you are done with seeing all of these wonderful places, we will get you back on the bus and taken to the hotel to relax and to get ready for 2nd day tour.

Day 2

Seljalandsfoss waterfall

We start the adventure at the time when we pick you from the Reykjavík in a comfy and relaxing minibus prior to moving directly to the south. Our arrival is declared by the prevailing dramatic performance of Seljalandsfoss. You are advised to bring a raincoat with you if you want to have a hike behind the waterfalls.

Skógafoss waterfall

Moving further towards the east along with the cost is Skógafoss waterfall. This waterfall is amazingly beautiful and best for photography. Securing in between the little narrow valley, the Skógá river falls down the 60 meters high ridge before going downwards towards the landscape and falls in Atlantic ocean. You will see the staircase along the gorge where you can move up for an adorable view of the waterfall.

Glacier Hike in Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park

We will take you to hike on a glacier originating from one of the biggest glaciers in Iceland know as Vatnajökull. Before moving to hike we fulfill all of the requirements from our trained glacier guides and wear all the safety equipment including crampons, harnesses, ice ax, and helmets. Then we hike there for one and half hour. It is definitely a great experience of glacier hiking Iceland to learn more about the rare natural process and incredible views.

Blue Ice Cave

The trip moves on to explore the blue ice cave. It will require only few minutes to hike up the top of cave. We advise you to wear hiking waterproof boots that shield your ankles and have tough sole to assist you in hiking. The nature of Iceland is overwhelmed by glaciers and it requires highly certified guide and safety kit to explore these glaciers. The trained guide will inform you about safety measures while hiking blue ice cave and will allow you to know the true value of this marvels of nature. The blue ice cave is blue in color.

Northern Lights discovery

Day 3

Jökulsárlón, the Glacier Lagoon

Moving forward on day 2, we will move to Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon which is a glacial lagoon with a depth of 200 meters. It is fed by the outlet glacier of Europe’s largest glacier i.e. Breiðamerkurjökull. Huge icebergs used to originate from Breiðamerkurjökull throughout the year, so the lagoon usually stays full of ice floating towards the south. You can also book the boat ride through the icebergs in summer days using troll expeditions to witness the ice from close. If you don’t like boating, you can simply walk along the glacier lagoon and enjoy the wonderful view and silence of nature in Iceland.

The Diamond Beach

You will see the icebergs floating on the Atlantic Ocean from Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon on the other side of the road where they are rapidly moving back towards the shore by the winds and tide forces. This Diamond black sand beach is filled with little ice rocks in different size and shapes and sparks just like a diamond when the daylight falls on them.

Reynisfjara, the Black Sand Beach

Moving even further towards the east, we go to see the sandy black beach of Reynisfjara where you will see huge waves at the Atlantic coastline striking the exclusive basalt geometric columns in the cliff above the sand. You will also be able to see from the distance, the rock pillars submerged in water and cliffs of Dýrhólaey. The bird lover will definitely love this area as this area is full of puffins and lots of other unique bird species in summer months i.e. from June to August.

Day 4

Kirkjufell, “The Church Mountain”, and Kirkjufellfoss waterfall

In the past couple of years, the thin mountain of Kirkjufell has become the iconic landmark of Snæfellsnes. It gained popularity when it was appeared in the Game of Thrones as “Arrow Mountain”. The shape of the mountain is attributed to the erosive influence of glaciers throughout the last ice age around 12,000 years back. It is the most frequently photographed view in Iceland just because of its unique appearance. You will also see an amazing Kirkjufellsfoss waterfa

Búðakirkja, the Black Church of Búðir

Moving further we will stop at the village located on the south coast of peninsula where you will see only a small black church and a hotel. The church is named as Búðakirkja that is present alone in the lava fields. Búðakirkja was established in 1703 and renovated in 1987 when a single member petitioned to get it back. It consists of a chalice, bell and a traditional graveyard from the time when it was constructed. It is owned by National Museum of Iceland and is a listed building but Búðir parish takes care of it. No doubts this place has romantic air and an absolute attraction to the site best for photography.
Arnarstapi fishing village
This small village famous for fishing offers the best coastal cliffs scene for photography. The coastal cliff was created from the hitting of red hot magma to the waves of Atlantic. In Iceland, it is considered as the most stunning sanctuary of the country. After thousands of years of its creation, erosion has shaped attractive stone arcs and a wonderful marine geyser.

Ytri Tunga beach and seal colony

It is the sandy beach hiding a small secret down the sea, on the back side of farmhouses i.e. the seal colony. Seals are the creatures that tend to pass their time moving on the s of stunning Ytri Tunga beach. Seals are used to be friendly and curious and easily jump up on the rocks to give to a great chance to view them from distance.

Lóndrangar and basalt cliffs

The Lóndrangar have paired rock pinnacles and are the left behinds of a big size crater that has generally eroded away. Moving on the whole southern coastline, you will see a set of 75 m high basalt pinnacles i.e. Lóndrangar. There will be a diversity of seabirds, puffins, northern fulmars and many others.

Djúpalónssandur, the beach of black volcanic sand

Djúpalónssandur is a beach of stones and black volcanic sand. The local fishermen fought out to fertile fishing grounds of Atlantic Ocean. Even these days, we are able to see the “lifting stones” which those fishermen used to check their powers and confirm themselves of being worthy of straining life of Atlantic rowboat fishing. You can also lift them by yourself. In the year 1948, a British fishing trawling boat was stuck on the sand reef of Djúpalónssandur. Five of them died while the other 14 were rescued by the local rescue team. We can still witness the remains of their ship which reminds us of the powers of nature.

Saxhóll Volcanic Crater

It was created approximately 4,000 years ago and this volcanic crater can be assessed nowadays through an iron staircase. It will get you a choice of hiking. This hike is not very difficult and will offer you a 360° view of lava fields along with Snæfellsjökull glacier looming over.
