[title] => Glacier Lagoon (Jökulsárlón) Tour
    [description] =>

The Glacier lagoon is one of the longer day tours in the BusTravel Iceland catalogue but it is most certainly worth the drive. Located on the south east part of the island the Glacier Lagoon is a stunning force of nature which is fed from the largest glacier in Iceland, Vatnajökull.

As the ice breaks away from the melting glacier it drifts through the lagoon and towards the ocean which creates a very unique landscape that is constantly moving and shifting. We will also have some time during the drive to visit additional famous stops on the south coast including the mysterious Seljalandsfoss waterfall that you can walk behind.

[excerpt] => Our Glacier Lagoon tour will take you along the south of Iceland. You will see the grand waterfall Seljalandsfoss, the amazing Diamond Beach and the lagoon itself. Jökulsárlón: The Glacier Lagoon

Jökulsárlón, known colloquially as the Glacier lagoon, is an interesting body of water which connects the nearby Vatnajökull glacier with the North Atlantic Ocean. This area became a popular tourist destination, due to the ice breaking away from the glacier and drifting out to the ocean creating a constantly landscape that resembles art.

Seljalandsfoss waterfall

Seljalandsfoss is a fascinating waterfall and perhaps one of the most visited waterfalls in Iceland. Its popularity is well deserved as the Seljalandsfoss waterfall houses a very special surprise, in the summertime you are able to walk behind the cascade and get a tremendous view of the waterfall from behind.

The water that feeds this 60m tall waterfall originates from the (in)famous Eyjafjallajökull glacier capped volcano. just make sure to be careful as you walk along this path as it can get slippery and wet!

Village of Vík

Vík í Mýrdal is a small village and is in fact the most southerly village on the island. The town only houses 300 inhabitants but this is a great location for you to get gifts for the people waiting for you back home and get something nice to eat.

Diamond Beach

The Diamond Beach is maybe the most photogenic place on the whole island. The ice from the Glacier Lagoon drifts out of the lagoon into the ocean and at some point back to the beach. The beach is a beautiful black sand beach which makes the blue ice just look like diamonds on the beach!

Our day tour will begin with our fast and efficient pick up service. We will come with our fantastic bus fleet to collect you from either, one of the hotels in the centre of Reykjavik or from one of the many pick up spots dotted across the city. When all our guests are aboard we will begin our drive along the southern coast of Iceland.

You will pass by views of the black sand beaches, glaciers and lava fields that make up the dramatic landscape of the area.

Our first destination is the Glacier lagoon itself and once we arrive you will have a variety of activities to choose from.
You may want to take a short boat ride across the lagoon (summer season only, tickets available for purchase on the bus). You could take a walk down to the Diamond Beach and witness the contrast between the glistening Ice and the black sands or for those who want to learn a little more about the area there is also a fantastic visitors center that will give you all the essentials.

When our time at the lagoon comes to an end we will head back along the south coast again, but our exploration is far from over and we still have plenty to show you. There is also the village of Vik to see and we will take time to stop and see the amazing waterfall of Seljalandsfoss.

The duration of the tour is 14 hours

There is no food included on this tour but there will be stops where you are able to purchase food

Description

There are few things in this world that are more mesmerizing then the endless expanse of a blue glacier lagoon stretched out before you. The lagoon is one of the country’s many wonders. In this tour, you will be taken to not only see the blue lagoon Iceland, you will also get to visit the nifty little fishing village of Vik as well as sightsee the grand waterfall called Seljalandfoss.

The glacier lagoon is a marvellous epoch of nature and one of the most beautiful lagoons in Iceland. It is fed by Vatnojokull which is the largest glacier in Iceland. It might be a little far away as it’s far into the south of the country, but its pristine waters make it worth the drive. The tour itself is somewhat lengthy so make sure you have time on your hands when you set out on it! The constantly breaking ice floats downstream and into the lagoon which makes forth a wonderfully beautiful landscape which is ever transient and always changing.

There are four main highlights for you to enjoy on this tour. Starting with the Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon itself, moving onto a boat ride which is optional for you to take, then sightseeing the magnificence of the grand waterfall and then finally visiting the lovely little fishing village of Vik.

The lagoon is on the coast of the North Atlantic ocean and in turn a freezing mass of crystal clear water. The constantly breaking ice that drifts along the surface of the water makes it a popular tourist attraction as the water alone looks like a scene out of a painting.

The grand waterfall itself is another popular attraction. The most fascinating thing about it is the fact that you can go behind the cascade of water and have the pleasure of viewing the powerful display of nature literally from behind the scenes!

Village of Vík

Speaking of the village of Vik, it is one of the smallest in Iceland with a population of only 300. It is a great place for you to relax and refresh yourself after a long and tiring journey. The tiny shops in the village offer an excellent place for tourists to get their hands on some local souvenirs.

Tourists should note that there is no food inclusive on this tour however there will be shops and restaurants along the way where you will be able to buy your own refreshments!
