Skógar is a good starting and ending point for a hike between Þórsmörk and Skógar. Yoy can hike Fimmvörðuháls a beautiful hiking trail which lies on part between the glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. At Skógar is the majestic waterfall Skógafoss. The waterfall is a 60 m high and 25 m wide. We have an old story about one of the icelandic settlers, Þrasi Þórólfsson. The legend has it that Þrasi had a big treasure chest, which was said to have been full of gold. The strong Þrasi threw the gold treasure into the waterfall all the way in to a cave behind the Skógafoss waterfall. At Skógar is a museum with a cultural heitage collection, 6 old buildings and 3 museums. Skógar museum is only one minute from the warterfall Skógafoss.
